Spaceman by Pragmatic Play: the crash game with a half-way out
An astronaut floats upward, the multiplier climbs, and at some point he spins off into the dark. Spaceman is the crash game you get at licensed casinos that will not carry Spribe, and its partial cash-out is the one feature we wish every rival would copy.
Pragmatic Play is the biggest slot studio in the business, and in March 2022 it decided the crash format was too big to ignore. Spaceman was the result. It is not the most played crash game (that is Aviator by a distance) and it does not have the best RTP (that is Chicken Road). What it has is a licence footprint that gets it into regulated casinos Spribe could not reach at the time, a statistics panel that is the best in the genre, and a 50% cash-out button that solves the central problem of every crash game: the moment where you want to take some money and keep some in.
If you are at a licensed casino in Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands or Brazil, or at a UK site, Spaceman is very likely the only crash game in the lobby. This page is about getting the most out of it.
What is Spaceman?
Spaceman is a single-bet crash game. Each round, an astronaut lifts off from the bottom of the screen and a multiplier starts climbing from 1.00x. At a random point he tumbles away into space and the round ends. Cash out before that and you are paid your stake multiplied by the figure on screen. Do not and the stake is lost.
The facts that matter:
- Studio: Pragmatic Play, Malta. Licensed by the UKGC, MGA, Italy's ADM, Spain's DGOJ, Portugal's SRIJ, the Dutch KSA, Brazil's SPA and around twenty others.
- Released: March 2022.
- RTP: 96.5%. House edge 3.5%.
- Bets per round: One. There is no second panel.
- Max multiplier: 5,000x. The number stops there even if the astronaut keeps floating.
- Bet range: 1 to 100 in most regulated currencies; from 0.10 at some offshore operators.
- Round interval: about seven seconds between launches.
It plays slower and quieter than JetX and a touch slower than Aviator. The visuals are soft purples and a cartoon astronaut. Nothing explodes. That gentleness is, we think, deliberate: it is the crash game designed to sit next to Sweet Bonanza in a regulated lobby without frightening anyone.
How Spaceman works, round by round
- Set your stake during the countdown. A ten-second timer runs between rounds. Bets placed after the astronaut has launched queue for the next one.
- Optionally set an auto cash-out. Type a multiplier, say 1.80, and the whole bet is cashed out there if the round reaches it.
- Optionally set a 50% auto cash-out. A second field. Type 1.40 and half your stake is banked at 1.40x automatically, leaving the other half riding toward your main target.
- Watch the multiplier climb. It rises slowly at first and accelerates. 1x to 2x takes longer than 2x to 4x.
- Cash out, or cash out half. Two buttons. The big one takes everything at the current multiplier. The 50% one takes half and leaves half in play.
- Or watch him go. Anything still in the round when the astronaut crashes is lost. Next countdown starts.
2.7x. The 50% button has been pressed at 1.50x already; the remaining half is riding.
The 50% cash-out, with a worked example
This is the feature. Every crash game forces a binary choice: all in or all out. Spaceman adds a third option, and it changes how a round feels more than any other feature we have seen in the format.
Here is how it plays out with numbers. You bet 100 units.
- The astronaut reaches 1.50x and you press the 50% button. Half the bet, 50 units, is cashed out at 1.50x. You receive 75 units immediately. The other 50 units remain in play.
- The round continues. Two things can happen.
- He crashes at 2.10x before you press anything. You lose the remaining 50 units. Round result: 75 units returned on a 100-unit bet, a net loss of 25.
- You cash out the remainder at 3.00x. The second half pays 50 x 3.00 = 150. Round result: 75 + 150 = 225 units on a 100-unit bet, a net profit of 125.
Compare that with the same round played as a plain bet. Cash out everything at 1.50x and you take 150, profit 50, no further exposure. Ride everything to 3.00x and you take 300, profit 200, but you are also exposed to losing the whole 100 if he crashes at 1.40x.
The partial cash-out does not improve your expected return. Each half of the bet is still subject to the 3.5% edge, and the maths of a half-bet at 1.50x plus a half-bet at 3.00x is exactly the maths of two separate bets at those targets. What it does is let you run a "cover and ride" pattern in one bet panel instead of two, and it lets you do it after the round has started, with information you did not have at the countdown. Aviator's dual panel makes you commit both targets up front. Spaceman lets you decide at 1.50x whether you feel like riding today.
We like it. We also want to be clear that liking it is about the experience, not the edge.

RTP, volatility and what the statistics panel actually shows
RTP is 96.5%. That is the certified figure and it is the same at a Dutch licensed casino and at a crypto site. The 3.5% house edge is applied, as in every crash game, by having the astronaut crash slightly more often than the multiplier distribution would suggest.
| Target | Round reaches it about | Break-even hit rate |
|---|---|---|
| 1.20x | 80.4% | 83.3% |
| 1.50x | 64.3% | 66.7% |
| 2.00x | 48.3% | 50.0% |
| 3.00x | 32.2% | 33.3% |
| 5.00x | 19.3% | 20.0% |
| 10.00x | 9.7% | 10.0% |
| 100x | 0.97% | 1.0% |
The gap between the two right-hand columns is the 3.5%, and it is a shade wider than Aviator's at every row. Over a 1,000-round evening at a 2x target, that half-point costs you roughly five extra units per hundred staked compared with Aviator. Not ruinous. Not nothing.
Spaceman has no official volatility rating because, as with every crash game, you set the volatility yourself with your cash-out target. What it does have, and what nothing else in the format matches, is the statistics panel: a bar chart of the last 50 to 500 rounds, grouped by outcome. At the time we wrote this, the last 500 rounds at one operator showed 47% ending between 1.01x and 1.99x, about a third between 2x and 10x, and just under 1% above 100x. That is the distribution above drawn by real results.
The panel is useful for exactly one thing: showing you that the distribution is what the maths says it is. It is useless for the thing people use it for, which is spotting that a "big one is due". Each round is independent. A run of eight sub-1.50x rounds does not make the ninth any more likely to fly.
Five hundred rounds. The shape never changes, only the order.
Single bet, auto settings and tournaments
One bet per round. The thing people miss most coming from Aviator or JetX. The 50% button is the compensation and, in our experience, a better one than a second panel, but if your habit is a 1.20x cover bet plus a 5x long shot, you will need to build that out of a half-and-half instead.
Auto cash-out and auto 50% cash-out. Both set before the round and both exact. Auto play lets you fix a number of rounds and stop conditions: stop if balance drops by X, stop if balance rises by Y, stop on a single win above Z. You cannot change the stake while auto play runs, which is a small, sensible brake.
Tournaments. Pragmatic Play runs daily leaderboards on Spaceman at many operators, with a pool (5,000 units a day at the site we checked, capped at 1,000 per player). Rankings are by multiplier hit or total win, which means they reward riding to high targets. They are marketing, funded by the operator, and they are the one legitimate reason to play a higher target than you otherwise would.
Chat and live bets. Present, and quieter than Aviator's because Spaceman's player base skews toward regulated-market casino players rather than bookmaker crowds. Nobody is dropping rain in the Spaceman chat.
Fairness. Each round can be verified against a server seed and a client seed using a SHA-256 tool. The implementation is less transparent than Spribe's (fewer seeds, less in-game explanation) but it does exist and the lab certification behind the 96.5% RTP is the same one Pragmatic's slots carry.

Our take: play Aviator for the maths, JetX for the jackpot, Spaceman for the half-out and the stats, and Spaceman by default if you are at a regulated casino that only has Spaceman. The Aviator page and the JetX page have the long versions.
Where Spaceman is available, and why it matters
This is the part of the Spaceman story that explains its popularity better than any feature.
When Spribe launched Aviator in 2019 it had a Georgian and a Curacao certificate. Pragmatic Play, by contrast, had already spent five years collecting licences to sell slots into every regulated market in Europe. When Spaceman arrived in 2022 it could go straight into lobbies that Aviator could not touch: Italy's ADM operators, Spain's DGOJ sites, Portugal, the Netherlands after the 2021 reopening, and the UK. When Brazil regulated online casino in 2025, Pragmatic was certified on day one.
That is why, if you search "spaceman game" from a UK IP, the results are Paddy Power, PlayOJO, MrQ, Betfair and bet365, and not an affiliate listicle. Those casinos have it. Most of them do not have Aviator, and none of them has JetX.
Elsewhere, Spaceman's footprint looks like this:
- East and Southern Africa: Betway's locally licensed sites in Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia carry it. It is the one Pragmatic crash game you will find next to Aviator at a licensed African bookmaker.
- Bookmakers: 1xBet, Parimatch, Melbet and the rest of the offshore sportsbook tier have it in their Pragmatic section. It is rarely promoted because Aviator sells better.
- Crypto casinos: Stake, BC.Game, Rainbet and most of the Curacao crypto tier carry it. At Stake it sits two tiles away from Stake's own Crash, which is a nice place to compare them.
- Indonesia: Spaceman is, as far as we can tell from the search data, the most searched crash game in Indonesia, where "spaceman slot" and "spaceman pragmatic" outrank Aviator. Pragmatic's slot reputation there carried it.
- United States: no regulated casino has it. The US sweepstakes casinos (the social-casino-with-prizes model) do, and "spaceman sweeps" is a real and growing search. We treat sweepstakes play as its own subject on the US page.

The licensed route in East and Southern Africa; Spaceman sits in the Casino tab with the daily tournament active.

3Parimatch

Strategy that survives the maths
- Set the 50% auto cash-out at your cover target and the full auto cash-out at your ride target. Something like 1.40x and 3.00x. Then stop touching the buttons. The feature exists to remove the mid-round decision, not to add one.
- Stake 1% to 2% of your session bankroll. A 3x target hits about one round in three. Runs of six or seven misses are normal and will happen tonight.
- Use the statistics panel to calibrate, not to predict. Look at it once to see where your target sits in the distribution. Then close it.
- Play the tournament only if you were going to ride high anyway. It rewards exactly the behaviour that costs the most. A leaderboard prize is nice. It is not a reason to change your target.
- Leave when you hit your take-profit. The 3.5% is collected from people who stay.
Martingale is the one "strategy" to avoid outright. A ten-loss run at 2x is roughly a once-in-1,400-rounds event, which at seven seconds a round is an evening, and the eleventh bet in the sequence is 1,024 base stakes. Regulated casinos will also cap your bet at 100 long before that.
On predictors and signals: there are fewer for Spaceman than for Aviator, because Spaceman's audience is less exposed to Telegram marketing, but they exist and they are the same thing. A random number generator in a wrapper, or a referral funnel. The result is fixed before the astronaut moves. We explain the general case in how crash games work.
Similar games
Zeppelin (BGaming) is the other crash game you will see at licensed European casinos, particularly in Italy. Limbo at Stake is Spaceman with the animation removed and the RTP raised to 99%, and it is the game to try if the astronaut starts to feel slow. The full games list has the rest.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Spaceman game?
Spaceman is a crash game by Pragmatic Play, released in March 2022. An astronaut rises and a multiplier climbs from 1.00x; you cash out before he disappears to win your stake times that multiplier. It has a 96.5% RTP, a single bet per round, a top multiplier of 5,000x and a 50% partial cash-out that lets you bank half a bet and let the rest ride.
What is the RTP of Spaceman?
96.5%, which gives a house edge of 3.5%. It is half a point worse than Aviator and JetX (97%) and a point and a half worse than Chicken Road (98%). Pragmatic Play publishes the figure and it does not change by casino, though some regulated markets display it rounded to 96.50%.
How does the 50% cash-out in Spaceman work?
At any moment during a round you can press the 50% button. Half your stake is cashed out at the current multiplier and paid immediately. The other half stays in the round until you cash it out fully or the astronaut crashes. You can also set an automatic 50% cash-out multiplier before the round. It is the only mainstream crash game with this feature.
Where can I play Spaceman?
At regulated casinos in Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Brazil and the UK, because Pragmatic Play holds the licences Spribe lacked when those markets opened; at Betway's licensed African sites; at bookmakers such as 1xBet and Parimatch; and at crypto casinos including Stake. In the US it appears only at sweepstakes sites.
What is the maximum win in Spaceman?
5,000x the stake, which is where the multiplier stops climbing. At a 100-unit bet that is 500,000 units; most casinos then apply their own maximum payout, which can be lower. Rounds above 100x happen about once in a hundred, and 5,000x almost never.
Can I play Spaceman for free?
Pragmatic Play's demo is available on its own site in most regions and most casinos that carry Spaceman offer a demo toggle. There is no official embeddable demo, which is why this page does not include one. The demo uses the same 96.5% RTP as the real game.
Is Spaceman better than Aviator?
On features, yes: the partial cash-out is genuinely useful and the statistics panel is the best in the genre. On the maths, no: 96.5% against 97% means Spaceman costs you an extra half a unit per hundred staked. If you can get Aviator, play Aviator. If you are at a licensed European or Brazilian casino, Spaceman is almost certainly the crash game you have.
